Backstory

Back in the day I worked at Nest Recorders, a studio in East LA as an assisstant engineer where my boss Chris Sorem one handedly built his studio with highly stylized acoustics and cool vibe that ends up earning his first Grammy. Three years later, irido comes to life as I'm researching how can follow his footsteps and make something truely unique that enhance experienece in recording studios. The idea of sonic crystal is owning to Eelco Grimm where he point me to uncharted territories in Acoustics, Than and Martijn's Bio Art class inspired me to incorporate ecology into the design.

Craftsmanship

Despite iterative progess bog down by real life constrains, wood Carving and 3D metal bending are used to add visual varieties, which is well received by our users. I'd like thank all the staff members at HKU and helpers to make this unresonable piece see the light of day.

Modularity

Lots of effort has put into the design to make it portable, irido comes with a map and an intuitive Carabiner mounting system. Assembling is as easy as LEGO / Ikea furniture, and it's primarily made out of reclaimed materials

Locally sourced reclaimed wood
